Riccardo Schmitt
Born in Vicenza in 1983,
From the age of 15 he began studying drums under the guidance of Maestro Salvatore Minale, subsequently becoming interested in ethnic percussion and frame drums.
In 2016 he obtained the first level academic diploma in Jazz Drums and Percussion at the "San Pietro a Majella" Conservatory of Naples and in 2018 he obtained the second level degree, again in Jazz Drums and Percussion, at the "G.Martucci" Conservatory of Salerno under the guidance of Maestro Salvatore Tranchini.
Since 2008 he has been actively collaborating with the Ondanueve String Quartet that he accompanies in most of the live shows and with which he has recorded three discs: Viaggio (Amarcord label 2009), Boundary Line (Amarcord label 2014), Mutazioni (Radici Musicali 2019).
He is currently the drummer of the band Azul ⴰⵣⵓⵍ, which released the first ep of the same name in 2019 (Apogeo Records).
Since 2009 he has played in various original columns for films and TV series collaborating with various composers including: Pasquale Catalano, Giuseppe Sasso, Aniello Palomba, for directors such as Ferzan Ozpetek, Richard J. Lewis, Claudio Cupellini, Antonio Albanese etc.
From 2013 to 2016 he was a member of Il Quarto Imprevisto, a band that in 2015 released the album Resti (Full Heads) nominated for the Tenco Award as best first work.
He has also played with several artists including: Aniello Desiderio, Carmine Torchia, Amii Stewart, Eugenio Bennato, Giovanni Mauriello, Vox Populi, Katres, Maurizio Pica, Pino Perris, Brunella Selo, Sylvie Lewis, Fede 'n' Marlen, Pasquale Aprile and in the theatrical field he boasts collaborations with artists such as: Ernesto Lama, Gino Rivieccio, Mauro Gioia, Nello Iorio, Claude Tissier, Roberto Andò, Paolo Coletta, Geppy Glejieses, Mariano Rigillo.
In 2006 he participated with the Monteverdi Music Academy of Lauro (Avellino) in a tour held in Albania in the cities of Shkoder, Sheldi, Rragam, Rreshen, Bajze, Koplik and Trush.
In 2010 he took part in the “Une belle journée napolitaine” tour with Mauro Gioia and Antonio Pascale, visiting various Italian and international theaters including the Théâtre des Abesses (Paris), the Théatre National (Nice), the Théatre la Luna (Maubeuge). In the same year he participates in the MozArt Box Winter Festival with the "Quartetto Furioso" of the guitarist Aniello Desiderio.
From 2012 to 2015 he participated in the tour of the show T'ammore with the Vox Populi touching various Italian and international theaters including the Menotti Theater (Spoleto), the Flegrea Arena (Naples), the Sistina Theater (Rome), New York City Center (New York).
Between 2017 and 2018 he participated in the "Araba Fenice Tour" with the singer-songwriter Katres, visiting various Italian clubs and theaters.
Over the years he has participated in numerous festivals including: Napoli Teatro Festival (2008-2016-2017-2020), International Festival Strade del Cinema Aosta (2009), Mozart Box (Portici 2010-2019), M.E.I. di Faenza (2007), Corricella Jazz Procida (2010), Eboli International Guitar Festival (2012), Voci Per la Libertà Festival A Song For Amnesty International (2016), Festival From Baroque to Jazz Capri (2017), Farcisentire Festival (Naples 2018), Festival Segreti d'Autore (Gioi Cilento 2018), Ecosuoni Festival (Palma Campania 2021), Bitonto Blues Festival (2021), International Festival of Capri (2021) to name a few.
Since 2005 he has also dedicated himself to teaching, teaching drums in various musical academies in Campania. He is currently drum teacher at the Jam Music School in Pomigliano D’Arco (NA) and at the Centro Musica Minale in Marigliano (NA).

Dall’età di 15 anni intraprende gli studi di batteria sotto la guida del M°Salvatore Minale, interessandosi successivamente anche alle percussioni etniche ed ai tamburi a cornice.
Nel 2016 consegue il diploma accademico di primo livello in Batteria e Percussioni Jazz presso il Conservatorio “San Pietro a Majella” di Napoli e nel 2018 consegue quello di secondo livello, ancora in Batteria e Percussioni Jazz, presso il Conservatorio “G.Martucci” di Salerno sotto la guida del M°Salvatore Tranchini.
Dal 2008 collabora attivamente con gli Ondanueve String Quartet che accompagna nella maggior parte dei live e con i quali ha registrato tre dischi: Viaggio (Amarcord label 2009), Boundary Line (Amarcord label 2014), Mutazioni (Radici Musicali 2019).
Attualmente è batterista della band Azulⴰⵣⵓⵍ ,che ha pubblicato nel 2019 il primo EP omonimo (Apogeo Records).
Dal 2009 suona in svariate colonne originali per film e serie tv collaborando con vari compositori tra cui: Pasquale Catalano, Giuseppe Sasso, Aniello Palomba, per registi come Ferzan Ozpetek, Richard J.Lewis, Claudio Cupellini, Antonio Albanese ecc.
Dal 2013 al 2016 è membro de Il Quarto Imprevisto, band che nel 2015 pubblica l’album Resti (Full Heads) candidato al Premio Tenco come migliore opera prima.
Ha inoltre suonato con diversi artisti tra cui: Aniello Desiderio, Carmine Torchia, Amii Stewart, Eugenio Bennato, Giovanni Mauriello, Vox Populi, Katres, Maurizio Pica, Pino Perris, Brunella Selo, Sylvie Lewis, Fede ‘n’ Marlen, Pasquale Aprile e in ambito teatrale vanta collaborazioni con artisti come: Ernesto Lama, Gino Rivieccio, Mauro Gioia, Nello Iorio, Claude Tissier, Roberto Andò, Paolo Coletta, Geppy Glejieses, Mariano Rigillo.
Nel 2006 partecipa con l’Accademia Musicale Monteverdi di Lauro (Avellino) ad un tour tenutosi in Albania nelle città di Scutari, Sheldi, Rragam, Rreshen, Bajze, Koplik e Trush.
Nel 2010 partecipa al Tour “Une belle journée napolitaine” con Mauro Gioia e Antonio Pascale toccando vari teatri italiani ed internazionali tra cui il Théâtre des Abesses (Parigi), il Théatre National (Nizza), il Théatre la Luna (Maubeuge).
Nello stesso anno partecipa al Festival MozArt Box Winter con il “Quartetto Furioso” del Chitarrista Aniello Desiderio.
Dal 2012 al 2015 partecipa alla tournèe dello spettacolo T’ammore con i Vox Populi toccando vari teatri italiani ed internazionali tra cui il Teatro Menotti (Spoleto), l’Arena Flegrea (Napoli), il Teatro Sistina (Roma), il New York City Center (New York).
Tra il 2017 e il 2018 partecipa all’ “Araba Fenice Tour” con la cantautrice Katres, toccando vari club e teatri italiani.
Negli anni partecipa a numerosi festival tra cui: Napoli Teatro Festival (2008-2016-2017-2020), Festival internazionale Strade del Cinema Aosta (2009), Mozart Box (Portici 2010-2019), M.E.I. di Faenza (2007), Corricella Jazz Procida (2010), Festival Internazionale della chitarra Eboli (2012), Festival Voci Per la Libertà Una Canzone Per Amnesty International (2016), Festival Dal Barocco al Jazz Capri (2017), Farcisentire Festival (Napoli 2018), Festival Segreti d’Autore (Gioi Cilento 2018), Ecosuoni Festival (Palma Campania 2021), Bitonto Blues Festival (2021), Festival Internazionale di Capri (2021) per citarne alcuni.
Dal 2005 si dedica anche all’attività didattica insegnando batteria in varie accademie musicali della Campania.
Attualmente è maestro di batteria presso la Jam Music School di Pomigliano D’Arco (NA) e presso il Centro Musica Minale di Marigliano (NA).
